Anglet
Our favorite beaches are in Anglet: La Chambre d’Amour and La Madrague.
At La Madrague, we love L’Arrantza, a great beachside restaurant.
Biarritz
If you’d prefer to stay within walking distance, La Grande Plage is the main beach — broad, lively, and lined with iconic striped tents, making it Biarritz’s most emblematic stretch of sand. For a calmer atmosphere, Plage du Port Vieux is a small, sheltered cove, ideal for swimming and relaxing.
For surf lovers
La Côte des Basques in Biarritz is a must for surfers. You can’t go wrong here, whether you’re learning or improving your surf skills. Just note that this beach is tide-dependent — at high tide, there is little to no sand, so plan your visit around low tide for the best experience.
If you're staying a little longer...
Just next to Biarritz, Guéthary is an absolute must — small, charming, and very Basque.
Go there for a drink or lunch at Passaia Guéthary.
A picturesque harbor town perfect for a relaxed afternoon of exploring, wandering the old streets, and enjoying local snacks by the water. We have so many memories there.
A vibrant historic city known for its half-timbered houses, lively streets, and strong Basque identity. A great place to stroll along the rivers, explore the old town, and stop for coffee, chocolate, or drink.
About 25 minutes by car from Biarritz is a laid-back surf town known for its ocean, lake, and relaxed coastal lifestyle.
Oyster lovers shouldn’t miss Chez Jérôme, located near the Hossegor lake — a local favorite for fresh oysters and a casual, authentic atmosphere.
About a 45-minute drive from Biarritz, is just over the Spanish border and a true food-lover’s paradise. Known for its vibrant pintxos bars, beautiful beaches, and elegant seaside setting, it’s an ideal destination for a day trip or a leisurely lunch by the sea.
